I was born in California but raised in Idaho since I was 2-years-old. I seemed to display immense empathy growing up and always have had the compulsion to fight for the underdog. Social Work, therefore, was a perfect fit for a career choice and a way of life. I married during my last semester of undergraduate studies and in December of last year we had our 20-year-aniversary. I also have a daughter, a cat and a dog. Unfortunately it’s our cat that rules the roost and our dog needs constant reassurance that it’s ok that she exists
In graduate school, my plans for one path changed in a day and suddenly I was doing psychotherapy. I loved it! I had found my niche and would find myself in perfect flow throughout each session and each day. I received my Master’s in Social Work and then received my Master’s in Clinical Social Work. I have been in the field of Social Work for 20 years. I now own my own private practice and provide psychotherapy to individuals, couples, adolescents, and children.
My name is Jan Shaughnessy and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Boise, Idaho. I have been counseling the people of Boise, Meridian, Eagle, Star, Nampa, Caldwell and the Treasure Valley for over 20 years. My approach to counseling is sympathetic, and supportive, but also pragmatic. I am happy to work with anyone of any age, cultural background, or sexual orientation. I like to focus my patients on removing psychological and behavioral obstacles that can prevent you from reaching your goals and improving your relationships. I use a method of treatment called CBT – Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to focus my patients on removing psychological and behavioral obstacles.
Do you suffer from Anxiety, PTSD, Depression, LGBT Issues, or even blended family issues? If so, I can help. My name is Jan Shaughnessy and I have been specializing in almost all aspects of psychological and behavioral issues for over 20 years. When dealing with stressful situations or difficult times, it can be hard to know what to do or how to get help. Uncertainty, stress, and discomfort can be immediate triggers for anxiety, depression, mood disorders, or even weight loss or weight gain. With these issues I use a method called Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to treat my patients and help them cope. This method is used to help my patient’s focus on removing psychological and behavioral obstacles and overcoming fear. CBT can include a variety of techniques and can be used with a variety of diagnoses. The goal is to challenge patterns of thinking and replace them with realistic thought processes.
At some point in time, almost every person will face a traumatic experience or difficult time in his or her life. The emotional and physical pain caused by these experiences can leave deep emotional scarring that may never heal without help. My job is to access your issues, gain a better understanding of your needs, and provide a solution to help you reach your goals, emotionally and physically. I can get you back on track! Whether you struggle with job frustration, relationship or family issues, addiction or self-esteem issues, I can provide you the help you need. To schedule an appointment, call 208-376-3677 or send me a message using the form on our site. I look forward to hearing from you.
